A part of England has been given a cold warning which is forecasting snow and ice due to the following temperatures. The cold weather and wintery threats are expected to be experienced throughout the week.
The UKHSA is issued the warning to the Midlands and northern part of England, which will be in force from Monday. It will be in place between 8am and 8am the following Friday, which will be the East Midlands, West Midlands, North East, North West, and Yorkshire and the Humber. The Met Office proved that snow and ice are possible after spells of above-average temperatures.
This follows the fact that Saturday experienced the coldest night ever to hit the UK since March and temperatures went down to minus 7C in Tulloch Bridge at the Scottish Highlands.
There will be a substantial decrease in temperatures as there will be a change in wind. The southerly winds have resulted in recent mild spells, but this will soon change and by Monday the colder air on the north will rush southwards and cause Arctic winds
The high pressure to the northwest will cause the cold snap according to Met Office deputy chief meteorologist Dan Holley.
He had stated that this pressure would cause a cold northerly flow down through the Arctic, and that with this a much colder climate than of late would be experienced.
This temperatures may drop down to as low as minus 7C in some areas next week, as predicted by the Met Office.
“It’s certainly going to turn much colder over the next couple of days, there will be an eight to 10 degree drop in temperature, you will be struggling to get double figures,” Met Office meteorologist Simon Partridge told The Independent.
“We probably see our first widespread countryside frost on Monday morning and the lowest temperatures will be somewhere between minus 5C and minus 7C.
It can possibly snow in regions that are exposed to this northern wind of the Arctic.
“On Tuesday, there is a small area of low pressure that is going to bring in a band of rain, sleet and hill snow,” Mr Partridge said.
Scotland, Northern Ireland, North Yorkshire Moors, West Wales and the moors of Southwest England could be hit by winterly showers, which consist of a combination of rain, sleet and snow.
The Met Office has reported that there was a possibility of snowfall in these regions on Tuesday and Wednesday. Most of the areas will also be dry and sunny on Thursday with overnight frosts.
UKHSA has also declared a cold weather warning before the temperature go down. The notice is suspended between 8am on Monday to 8am next Friday. It encompasses the East Midlands, West Midlands, North East, North West and Yorkshire and Humber.
