Aer Lingus to let passengers take 10kg carry-on on all regional flights, including Glasgow

Aer Lingus has announced that it will extend its 10 kg carry-on baggage allowance to all regional flights from 3 March 2026. This change will apply to short-haul routes operated by Emerald Airlines under the Aer Lingus Regional brand, including flights to and from Glasgow. Until now, regional services had a stricter 7 kg limit for cabin bags, which often confused passengers on UK and European routes.

The new rule means every Aer Lingus passenger on regional flights will be entitled to one 10 kg cabin bag as standard. Passengers can either check this bag into the hold for free or pay a small fee to keep it in the cabin, depending on their fare type. Under the updated policy, Plus and Advantage fare holders can bring a 10 kg bag on board at no extra cost, while Saver fare passengers can check it for free or pay around 9.99 euros to carry it on.

Aer Lingus says the move is meant to align regional baggage rules with its mainline European services and make travel simpler for customers. The airline also stresses that one small personal item, such as a laptop bag or handbag, will remain free for all travellers on every flight. AerClub Silver, Platinum, and Concierge members will continue to enjoy automatic carry-on privileges regardless of fare class.

For passengers flying to or from Glasgow, the change will affect regional routes such as those between Scottish and Irish airports, as well as some UK and Channel Islands services. The airline advises customers to check their booking on the Aer Lingus website or “Manage Trip” page to see whether their 10 kg bag is included or if they need to pay to carry it on. Aer Lingus has also reminded travellers that size limits for cabin bags still apply and that staff may ask heavier or oversized bags to be checked at the gate if space is tight.

Overall, the new 10 kg policy is expected to reduce stress at check-in and boarding, especially on busy regional routes like Glasgow-Dublin and other short-haul links. The airline says I will monitor how the change works in practice and may adjust communication or procedures if needed. For now, passengers on Aer Lingus regional flights can plan to pack a bit more in their cabin luggage, as long as they stay within the weight and size rules.
