When the Los Angeles Lakers had already lost a player, they were being defeated by the Sacramento Kings on Sunday when another player sustained an injury.
They already lost LeBron James, who is out at least until the middle of November with sciatica; Luka Doncic, who has a sprained finger and leg contusion and Jaxson Hayes who is suffering with soreness in his knees. Gabe Vincent, a guard, left the field at the beginning of the third quarter of Sunday with a sprained ankle.
According to Mike Trudell, Vincent is not going to the game. He had failed to score in four attempts he had made in 19 minutes on the field of play when he was injured.
However, the Lakers have not been giving in with all their injuries. As 4:48 left in the fourth quarter, they led 114-106, in part due to Austin Reaves, who scored his career high of 45 points but also gave out nine assists and rebounds.
This is yet another big blow to the Lakers who lost Gabe Vincent during Sunday’s match with the Kings after rolling his ankle. LA had already taken a bit into this game, losing Luka Doncic to the sidelines alongside LeBron James, due to a left leg contusion and left finger injury.
Vincent had been filling in at the fifth starter in the absence of James, so that puts coach JJ Redick further restricted with his lineups and combinations before a rough schedule. The second night of a back-to-back is Monday when LA faces Trail Blazers.
Vincent spent the third quarter and scored three points, one rebound and one assist and was not 0-for-4
In the fourth quarter, the Lakers wrote that Gabe Vincent will not participate in the game any longer and refers to a left ankle sprain. Although LA did not suffer a lot as Vincent was not producing, losing another ball-handler when Austin Reaves went to the bench had significant effects on the team.
The other playmaker and ball-handler that the Lakers have to offer in the Sunday game and possibly on Monday against the Trail Blazers, is Marcus Smart.
It is unpleasant early season twist to a Lakers team that is already dealing with workloads and injuries of key veterans. Losing Vincent, even temporarily, means other lineups and increased touches per major creators as Vincent has solidified a role as a dependable option in the perimeter and an unwavering ball-handler through the preseason. The rotation of the Lakers is the key to fast chemistry, which is needed on the team considering that LeBron James and Luka Doncic cannot play, and the availability of Vincent is something that cannot be undervalued based on the box-score statistics.
