US President Donald Trump warned he would issue direct orders to strike the petroleum infrastructure of the Iranian Kharg Island oil hub unless Iran ceased attacking vessels in the Strait of Hormuz, which is known to generate more than a quarter of the world’s oil output.
Trump accompanied his ultimatum with a social media statement that the United States has completely destroyed military targets on the island, which is the export terminal of 90 per cent of the Iranian oil shipments, and is located approximately 300 miles (483 km) northwest of the strait.
