Madeleine McCann’s mother tells court she is upset by a stalker who identifies her as her daughter 

Madeleine McCann’s mother has told a court that she has been feeling distressed after stalking Julia Wandelt who is a 24 years old Polish woman posing as her lost daughter.

Madeleine disappeared in 2007, when she was three years old. Kate McCann was called to give evidence in the trial of Ms Wandelt who is being accused of stalking and causing severe distress to Kate and Gerry McCann. Ms Wandelt denies the charge. Julia Wandelt, a woman purporting to be Madeline McCann, has already purported to be two other missing girls.

Michael Duck, the prosecutor stated that Ms Wandelt left messages in the mobile phone of Ms McCann requesting her to allow her to demonstrate that she was not a liar.

Interrogated on whether she had been ready to undertake a DNA test like Ms Wandelt had desired, Ms McCann said she was almost tempted to do so in order to be able to dismiss it.

On one occasion, Ms Wandelt entered the house of the McCanns and caught Ms McCann off guard in darkness leaving her in a state of distress.

“She called me mum, I think, she was asking for a DNA test, Why won’t you do a DNA test?’ and pleading with me,” she said.

“I got a fright anyway. When I realised who it was I felt quite distressed.

“I remember trying to close the door and Julia trying to put her hands out to stop me closing the door “

A letter was later posted to the McCanns’ home that read: “I’m so sorry for causing you so much distress, but when I saw you yesterday, my emotions were so strong,” the court heard.

It is alleged that Ms Wandelt sent email and phone messages to the McCanns between June 2022 and February 2025. On one occasion, the prosecution claimed that Ms Wandelt made 69 phone calls to Ms McCann on the same day.

The parents, Madeleine, became the point of international concern because on May 3, 2007, she disappeared at the age of three in the apartment in the Praia da Luz seaside resort where the family was on holiday. The parents, who are both doctors, are the center of the international limelight ever since Madeleine vanished there.

Ms McCann also admitted that the 24 year old attended a vigil last year to Madeleine. In 2007 Madeleine McCann disappeared out of her family holiday apartment in the Praia da Luz resort, Portugal. 

The prosecutors indicated that there were no doubts regarding the scientific evidence that Ms Wandelt whose alleged memories regarding the childhood and disappearance of Madeleine had been made, was not related by any blood to the McCanns.

Prosecutors have told the court that Ms Wandelt had already identified herself as two missing girls.
