On Sunday, Mexican officials announced that the drug lord, Nemesio Oseguera (also known as El Mencho), was killed in a military raid. Government intervention by the US has been putting pressure on Cartels, who are working hard to sway the government of the country.
The defence ministry of Mexico claimed that a gun battle in Jalisco seriously wounded Oseguera, and he passed away when they transferred him to Mexico City via aeroplane. They observed that there was a provision of complementary information by authorities in the US.
It initiated an outbreak of violence, as highways were blocked in more than half a dozen locations; there were burnt cars and gunmen.
Later on, the Indian Embassy in Mexico issued a warning, during the increased security, that citizens should reduce their movements and use caution. They posted in X, “There are ongoing security operations and related road blockages and criminal activity. Indian nationals in Jalisco State (areas of Puerto Vallarta, Chapala and Guadalajara), Tamaulipas State (areas of Reynosa and other municipalities), areas of Michoacan State, Guerrero State, and Nuevo Leon State should shelter in place until further notice.”
“Avoid areas around law enforcement activity. Be aware of your surroundings. Seek shelter and minimise unnecessary movements outside your shelter. Monitor local media for updates. Follow the directions of local authorities and in case of emergency, call 911. Avoid crowds. Keep family and friends advised of your location and well-being via phone, text, and social media,” the embassy advised.
According to US Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau, the murder of Oseguera was a great development of the US and Mexico and the other part of Latin America.
The drug lord was an ex-police officer and the evanescent leader of the potent Jalisco New Generation Cartel. A group bearing the name of a Western state, where one of the largest cities of Mexico, Guadalajara, is located.
In a brief span of time, the CJNG transformed into a global criminal organisation that competes with other partners in the Sinaloa Cartel, the gang of arrested kingpin Joaquin ‘El Chapo’ Guzman, who now languishes in a US jail.
The military campaign against Oseguera is preceded by a pressure campaign by the Trump administration on the Mexican president, Claudia Sheinbaum, to increase its crackdown on drug trafficking, including US threats to intervene directly in Mexico.
His arrest was to be spearheaded by the Defence Ministry, a government source who was privy to the operation, told Reuters that he was killed.
